U.S. SCIENTISTS CREATE FIRST-EVER COMPLETE BRAIN CIRCUIT MAP

A groundbreaking new 3D map of a single cubic millimeter of mouse brain—just a speck—has revealed a staggering 84,000 neurons connected by half a billion synapses and over 5.4 kilometers of neural wiring.

Researchers at the Allen Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, and Princeton used AI and electron microscopy to build the most comprehensive diagram of any mammalian brain tissue ever attempted.

Described as a potential “Human Genome Project for neuroscience,” the $100 million MICrONS project could revolutionize our understanding of brain function, intelligence, and diseases like Alzheimer’s and autism.
