Will Pakistan bounce back!
In the last couple of weeks, writer had interactions with different people which made me optimistic about our economic future. This could be the moment when many Pakistani brands, both traditional and modern, are willing to leave their comfort zone and invest in an otherwise unchartered territory of exports.
1: Owner of a large family group, one of the largest distributors in Pakistan – They shared that as a group they have made it their goal to be ‘import-neutral’, a term they coined which essentially means that they would export at least enough that would cover their entire group imports.
2: A restaurant chain in Pakistan expanding in the GCC region: Spoke with one of our clients, their owner is traveling to Dubai to open branches of their brand. Know at least 2 other Pakistani brands that are opening their first outlets in UAE.
3: Met founders of two well-funded B2B technology startups – Both of them are focusing on exports. Have already exported their first few shipments.
4: Saw a post of a senior executive of Foodpanda – they are exporting fresh produce from Pakistan to UAE.
5: Two senior technology professionals from North America are in Pakistan to help specialized technology services companies in Pakistan expand to North America.
6: Another organization Blink, decided to expand internationally almost 12 months ago. and, today 35-40% of their revenues are from outside of Pakistan.
Let this be a decade of exports for this country. Let this exchange rate be a moment of opportunity for all of us to take risks, leave our comfort zones, and compete with the best.
There will be failures, there will be learnings, and there will be casualties but let the process begin.
The magic will happen when the best of minds and capital will focus to solve our real problems.
