2026 Solar and Lunar Eclipse Dates and Timings Announced

The Meteorological Department has released the schedule for solar and lunar eclipses expected in 2026.

According to the department, two solar and two lunar eclipses will occur next year. The first solar eclipse is set for February 17, beginning at 3:00 PM, peaking around 5:00 PM, and ending at 7:30 PM Pakistan time. However, it will not be visible in Pakistan.

The first lunar eclipse will occur on March 3, and it will be partially visible from Pakistan. Another solar eclipse is expected on August 12–13, which will also not be visible in the country. The second lunar eclipse of the year will take place on August 28, but it too will not be visible from Pakistan.

In other news, NASA discovered a second moon orbiting Earth. Detected by researchers at the University of Hawaii, this small celestial body, measuring about 18 to 36 meters wide, has been orbiting alongside Earth since the 1960s and is expected to remain until around 2083.

Unlike the Moon, this quasi-moon doesn’t orbit Earth directly but circles the Sun while keeping pace with Earth’s path, staying roughly 4 million kilometers away.
