Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 has undergone its first durability test, conducted by popular tech durability reviewer JerryRigEverything, shortly after the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s trial. The main focus this year was whether the thinner 2025 flip phone could match the resilience of last year’s Z Flip 6, which successfully passed similar stress tests.
Scratch Resistance and Glass Performance
The Z Flip 7’s outer cover display and back panel are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. As expected, light scratches began appearing at Mohs hardness level 6, while deeper grooves became visible at level 7. This outcome is consistent with standard glass durability.
The inner folding display, however, remains more susceptible to damage. Like previous foldable devices, its flexible material can be scratched by softer objects. Tests revealed that even fingernails or items with a Mohs hardness rating of just 2–3 can leave marks. This is the trade-off for the flexibility that allows foldable screens to function.
Dust Protection
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 carries an IP48 rating, providing water resistance and protection against solid particles 1 mm or larger. In testing, fine dust and debris did manage to get into the hinge mechanism, producing slight grinding noises when the phone was opened or closed. Despite this, the device maintained normal functionality without any mechanical failure.
Bend Test Results
One of the most anticipated parts of the durability check was the bend test. Even with its slimmer frame compared to the Z Flip 6, the Z Flip 7 held firm. Applying force in the opposite direction of its natural fold did not cause structural damage, and the phone remained intact.
