Sharjah

Sharjah, UAE – Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Arada, on Thursday inaugurated the Quran Mosque in Aljada, one of the largest and most architecturally significant mosques in the emirate.

Spanning 6,388 square metres, the new mosque is distinguished by its column-free interior design, offering worshippers a wide, uninterrupted prayer space. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed led the Dhuhr prayer during the opening ceremony, marking the mosque’s official launch.

Capacity and Design

The Quran Mosque can host up to 3,000 worshippers, with:

  • 1,600 in the main prayer hall
  • 1,000 in the open courtyard
  • 400 in the women’s section

Its design features a striking circular dome and a 39-metre-high minaret, blending contemporary simplicity with traditional Islamic artistry. The façade is adorned with elegant Arabic calligraphy, reinforcing the mosque’s modern yet spiritual character while complementing Sharjah’s urban identity.

Facilities for Worshippers

The mosque has been equipped with comprehensive facilities, including:

  • Private rooms for contemplation
  • Residences for the imam and muezzin
  • Dedicated ablution areas and restrooms

Beyond serving as a place of prayer, the mosque is intended to be a community landmark, reflecting Sharjah’s vision of integrating faith, culture, and modern living.

Religious Significance

During the ceremony, Islamic scholar Salem Al Doubi emphasized the importance of mosques as centres of worship, peace, and community life. He highlighted their role in uniting people through good deeds and preserving Islamic values.

Quoting the words of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he reminded attendees:
“Whoever builds a mosque for God, even if it is the size of a sparrow’s nest, God will build for him a house in Paradise.”

Prayers were offered for all who contributed to the construction of the Quran Mosque.

Aljada Development and Future Plans

The Quran Mosque is the first to be completed in Aljada, with two additional mosques planned as part of Arada’s broader community development initiatives. This reflects Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to ensure mosques are accessible across the emirate, promoting social cohesion and reinforcing its deep-rooted Islamic identity.

The inauguration was attended by several senior officials and dignitaries, including:

  • Abdullah Khalifa Al Subousi, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs
  • Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council
