A 5.2 magnitude earthquake shook Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday morning, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The tremors were recorded at 10:20 am, with the epicenter located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region at a depth of about 190 kilometers. Due to its deep origin, the quake was widely felt but did not result in severe surface shaking.
Districts such as Mansehra, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, and Peshawar experienced the tremors. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage were reported. However, residents described brief moments of panic as people rushed out of their homes and offices into open areas until the tremors ended.

This event adds to a series of seismic activities in northern Pakistan over recent months. Experts emphasize that the region’s vulnerability stems from its location on active fault lines, which frequently trigger moderate quakes. While these are often not destructive, they serve as a reminder of the risks faced by earthquake-prone areas.
Authorities have reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm. Disaster management officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant, stay calm during tremors, and follow standard safety protocols to protect themselves in the event of stronger quakes in the future.
