delivery vehicles

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has officially launched Abu Dhabi’s first pilot programme for autonomous delivery vehicles. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with “K2” and EMX, the logistics division of 7X, under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC).

As part of this landmark step, the emirate has issued its first official licence plate for a self-driving delivery vehicle.

Smart Logistics Milestone

The new “Auto-Delivery” vehicles, developed by K2 subsidiary Autogo, are equipped with advanced AI-powered systems and smart mobility features, enabling them to navigate city streets and deliver orders without human drivers.

The trial operation, currently underway in Masdar City, marks a key stage toward the commercial rollout of autonomous logistics across Abu Dhabi. The programme also highlights ITC’s regulatory role in autonomous vehicles and freight transport, while supporting the emirate’s long-term strategy for smart mobility.

By 2040, Abu Dhabi aims to ensure that 25% of all trips are conducted via smart transport solutions, expanding on previous milestones such as the launch of autonomous taxis.

Supporting Sustainability and Innovation

The inclusion of autonomous delivery vehicles in Abu Dhabi’s transport framework is expected to transform last-mile logistics by:

  • Reducing road congestion
  • Cutting carbon emissions
  • Enhancing delivery efficiency
  • Improving customer experiences

Dr. Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director General of ITC, described the project as “a pivotal milestone in Abu Dhabi’s journey towards building a smart, sustainable transport system.” He emphasized that the trial is not just a technical demonstration but part of a broader strategy to strengthen logistics, reduce environmental impact, and enhance urban living standards.

Industry Partnerships

Commenting on the collaboration, Tariq Al Wahedi, Group CEO of 7X, said:
“This pilot represents a strategic milestone toward next-generation smart logistics. Through EMX, our logistics arm, we are committed to building a faster, safer, more adaptable, and sustainable logistics model that aligns with the UAE’s vision for digital transformation and the green economy.”

Expansion Plans

With the regulatory approval now in place, Autogo plans to expand operations beyond Masdar City. Discussions with new partners are underway, and wider public area testing is expected soon. Full-scale commercial deployment is anticipated in the coming months.
