Chicken Becomes Costlier in Karachi with Rs60/kg Hike in Meat Prices

The price of chicken has witnessed a sharp increase across city markets, making poultry meat less affordable for consumers. Over the past week, the rate of chicken meat has surged by Rs60 per kilogram, while the price of live chicken has gone up by Rs40 per kilogram.

In retail markets, chicken meat is now selling at around Rs650 per kg, and live chicken at Rs440 per kg—both significantly above the officially set rates of Rs615 and Rs404 per kg, respectively.

According to Imtiaz Ahmed, a representative of the poultry industry, the price hike is being driven by increased consumer demand amid a decline in supply, a trend that may continue if market conditions remain unchanged.
