Global Smartphone Output Surges Past 300 Million in Q2 2025

Global smartphone production climbed to 300 million units in the second quarter of 2025, according to data from TrendForce. The figure represents a 4% increase over Q1 and a 4.8% year-on-year rise, signaling that the industry is gradually recovering after months of sluggish performance caused by high inventory levels.

China’s Subsidy Program Boosts Market

One of the key drivers of this rebound was a subsidy program in China targeting mid-range and entry-level devices. The initiative allowed manufacturers to clear excess stock while simultaneously boosting domestic demand. This policy not only supported local brands but also gave global production numbers a strong push in Q2.

Performance of Top Brands

• Samsung retained its position as the world’s largest smartphone producer, shipping 58 million units. However, its output dropped 5% from Q1 due to a natural slowdown following the launch of its flagship devices.
• Apple ranked second with 46 million iPhones, a 9% quarterly decline but a 4% increase year-on-year, aided by consistent demand for the iPhone 16e and significant price cuts in China earlier in 2025.
• Xiaomi secured the third spot with 42 million units, up slightly from Q1. Its performance was boosted by China’s subsidy program as well as expanding market share in South America and Africa.
• Oppo (including OnePlus and Realme) produced 37 million smartphones, marking a 35% rebound after a weaker first quarter.
• Transsion—the parent company of Tecno, Infinix, and itel—saw strong momentum with 27 million units, a 33% increase quarter-on-quarter, driven largely by demand in emerging markets.
• Vivo, along with its iQOO sub-brand, manufactured 26 million units, up 8% from Q1.

Together, these six leading smartphone makers accounted for 80% of total global production in the second quarter of 2025.
