Rains and Thunderstorms

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the upper and central regions of the country, expected to persist through August 10.

Areas likely to experience the downpour include Islamabad, various parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and some regions in Balochistan. In contrast, Sindh will continue to face hot and humid weather, although coastal zones might witness partly cloudy conditions during the same period.

In response to the alert, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued flood warnings, particularly for major rivers such as the Chenab, Jhelum, and Kabul, along with smaller water channels in Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant, especially those living in flood-prone or low-lying areas. The risk of flash flooding and rapidly rising water levels is significant in regions like Hunza, Shigar, Zhob, and Musa Khel.

The public is advised to follow all safety directives from local authorities and to remain updated on the latest weather developments. Those residing or traveling in hilly or mountainous regions should exercise extreme caution.

Emergency response teams have been placed on high alert, and the government has directed all relevant departments to be fully prepared to handle any potential emergencies.

Citizens are encouraged to limit travel, stay informed, and safeguard themselves and their belongings from the adverse impacts of the ongoing weather activity.
