Sheikh Saleh Bin Humaid

Saudi Arabia has officially appointed Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid as the new Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, one of the country’s most prominent religious positions. He will also serve as the Chairman of the Senior Council of Scholars, the Kingdom’s highest Islamic authority.

The announcement was made on September 24, 2025, by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

A Respected Islamic Scholar

Sheikh Dr. bin Humaid is widely recognized as a distinguished Islamic scholar, known for his profound expertise in Shariah law and decades of service in teaching, religious leadership, and Islamic jurisprudence. He is also regarded for his balanced approach to applying Islamic principles in addressing modern societal challenges.

Role and Responsibilities

As Grand Mufti, Sheikh bin Humaid will hold a pivotal role in issuing fatwas (religious rulings), guiding the public on key social and ethical matters, and contributing to national and international discussions on faith in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Given Saudi Arabia’s status as the custodian of Makkah and Madinah, the two holiest sites in Islam, his influence is expected to extend well beyond the Kingdom’s borders, shaping discourse among Muslim communities worldwide.

Strengthening Religious Institutions

The appointment reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to strengthening its religious institutions while ensuring that Islamic governance remains rooted in scholarship, responsibility, and tradition.

By placing Sheikh bin Humaid at the helm, the Kingdom signals its intent to maintain stability, unity, and scholarly leadership at a time when Islamic guidance plays an increasingly central role in navigating modern challenges.
