foodpanda, Pakistan’s leading online food and grocery delivery platform, has made a significant mark on the national economy, contributing an impressive USD 1.2 billion (PKR 335 billion) in FY 2023–24. This revelation comes from the first-ever independent Economic Impact Assessment conducted by the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), showcasing the platform’s deep-rooted influence across multiple sectors in the country.

The in-depth study, led by a distinguished team from the LUMS Department of Economics, relied on both primary and secondary data sources and used input-output multipliers to calculate foodpanda’s broad economic contribution. The research highlights the platform’s far-reaching impact, not just in food delivery, but across hospitality, transport, manufacturing, retail, and fintech.

Key Economic Contributions:

  • PKR 335 billion total economic contribution in FY 2023–24
  • PKR 75 billion in restaurant GMV (gross merchandise value)

Speaking on the findings, Muntaqa Peracha, CEO of foodpanda Pakistan, stated:

“This in-depth study by LUMS is a powerful validation of foodpanda’s significant role in Pakistan’s economic landscape. It highlights our impact on jobs, income, digital inclusion, and financial growth. We remain committed to innovation, inclusivity, and a more prosperous digital future for Pakistan.”

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Kashif Z. Malik, Associate Professor at LUMS, emphasized:

“foodpanda’s impact goes far beyond food delivery. It is stimulating sector-wide growth, enabling entrepreneurship, and supporting financial and digital inclusion at scale.”

The study confirms foodpanda’s transformative influence in strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy, particularly by empowering small businesses, women entrepreneurs, and gig workers. With strong multiplier effects across key industries, foodpanda is proving to be a key driver of inclusive economic development.

Looking ahead, foodpanda plans to deepen its investment in technological innovation, small business support, and sustainable financial inclusion, further cementing its role as a catalyst for economic empowerment and digital advancement in Pakistan.
