The Punjab School Education Department has officially debunked a fake notification circulating on social media, which falsely claimed that summer vacations in all public and private schools across Punjab had been extended until August 31, 2025.
The forged notification, which quickly went viral online, alleged that the extension was due to persistent extreme weather conditions across the province. However, the department took swift action by publicly labeling the notice as “FAKE” and warning the public against spreading unverified or misleading information.
Department Issues Official Denial
To clarify the situation, the education department shared the fabricated document on its official Facebook page, clearly marked with a bold “FAKE” watermark. Alongside the image, the department issued a statement confirming that no official decision has been made to extend the current summer break.
“Please refrain from trusting or circulating unofficial notifications. The reopening schedule will be communicated through verified government channels,” the statement read.
Confusion Persists Over Reopening Date
Despite the clarification, uncertainty remains about the exact date when schools will reopen. The scheduled return is currently set for August 15, but an official confirmation has yet to be issued.
According to reports from a private news channel citing inside sources, there is indeed a proposal under review that suggests extending the summer vacation until August 31, given the persistent heatwave in the region.
Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat acknowledged the situation and confirmed that consultations are ongoing. He assured that the final decision would be announced soon, taking into account the latest weather conditions and student safety.
Weather Conditions Remain Challenging
Although sporadic rainfall has offered temporary relief in some areas, the majority of Punjab continues to endure high temperatures and oppressive humidity. These factors are expected to play a central role in determining whether an extension of the school holidays will be granted.
Until a formal notification is issued by the School Education Department, both parents and school administrations are advised to disregard any unofficial statements and await official announcements through the department’s verified communication channels.
