Pakistan is gearing up to send its very first astronaut into space, as Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal confirmed that the groundbreaking program is scheduled to officially launch next year.
This historic initiative is being carried out under a joint effort between the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China’s manned space agency as part of a wider human spaceflight program.
Training and Selection Process
As part of the project, two Pakistani astronaut candidates will undergo rigorous training at China’s astronaut training center. Out of the two, one will ultimately be selected to serve as a scientific payload specialist. The competitive selection process commenced this year and will continue until 2026. Once finalized, the chosen astronaut will be deployed to China’s space station.

Mission Objectives
During the mission, the astronaut will conduct advanced scientific experiments spanning multiple disciplines, including biology, medical sciences, fluid mechanics, materials research, environmental studies, and astronomy.

Pakistan’s Space Ambition
Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the importance of the program, reiterating that Pakistan is committed to sending its first astronaut to China’s space station by 2026. He described it as a monumental achievement for the nation’s space exploration journey, setting the stage for greater advancements in science and technology.
