The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has launched a fully digitised system for the registration, licensing and administration of all medical examinations, in what the regulator says is a landmark step toward transparency and automation in the sector.
The new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)-based platform replaces manual processes with end-to-end online services. Applicants can now register from home, track the status of their applications in real time and receive approvals automatically, sharply reducing delays and clerical errors.
National Registration Examination (NRE), National Equivalence Board (NEB) assessments and the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) have all been brought under the digital regime. PMDC said the shift will benefit hundreds of thousands of candidates every year by cutting travel, time and administrative costs.
Alongside the digital upgrade, the council has introduced a structured performance review mechanism for staff, including monthly and annual evaluations, confidential reports and a merit-based reward system to guide promotions and improve service delivery.
Calling the overhaul “a new era of transparency, efficiency and institutional excellence,” PMDC President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj said the council has completed a comprehensive restructuring to enforce clear job descriptions, financial discipline and streamlined reporting lines. All key vacancies have been filled to ensure continuity and compliance.
“We have restructured the council to strengthen digital governance and institutional capacity,” Dr. Taj said, adding that the change ensures “accountability, legal compliance and improved service delivery across all PMDC operations.”
To support the transformation, the council has launched capacity-building and professional development programmes for employees, including expert-led workshops to enhance technical, managerial and leadership skills.
The ERP platform integrates registration, licensing, human resources and public facilitation on a unified system to ensure data integrity and improve decision-making.
To expand outreach, PMDC has also opened regional facilitation centres in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Gilgit-Baltistan. The centres will provide in-person support for licensing, registration and public queries, ensuring equal access to services across Pakistan.
