Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman chaired a key meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) committee room to assess the situation in flood-affected districts.
Precautionary Measures Under Review
During the meeting, officials discussed precautionary steps, including a possible extension of summer vacations in educational institutions.
Schools across the province are scheduled to reopen on September 1 following the summer break. However, due to the ongoing flood crisis and the use of school buildings as temporary shelters for displaced families, authorities are considering a one-week extension.
Schools Supporting Flood Victims
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat noted that schools in affected areas have been opened to accommodate and assist families impacted by the floods. He emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remain the government’s foremost priority.
Final Decision Pending
Officials confirmed that a final decision on the extension of vacations will be announced after a thorough assessment of conditions in the flood-hit districts.
