Google has officially introduced AI Mode in Pakistan, bringing its most advanced AI-powered Search experience to local users. The new feature promises faster, smarter, and more comprehensive answers to complex queries, transforming the way people search online.
Global Expansion of AI Mode
Initially launched in the US earlier this year, AI Mode is now expanding globally. According to Google, users worldwide are embracing the tool for its speed, quality, and fresh responses, making it one of the most powerful upgrades to Search in years.
Powered by Gemini 2.5
At the core of AI Mode is a custom version of Gemini 2.5, which enables people to ask longer and more complex questions that would previously require multiple searches. Early testing shows that queries made in AI Mode are 2–3 times longer than traditional searches, highlighting its usefulness for exploratory tasks such as comparing products, planning trips, or learning complex topics.
The system uses a query fan-out technique that breaks down a question into subtopics, runs multiple searches simultaneously, and compiles a detailed, hyper-relevant response — along with links for further exploration.
Examples of Local Use Cases
Pakistani users can already explore AI Mode for a variety of tasks:
- Trip Planning: “I’m planning a trip to Hunza in October. Suggest a 5-day itinerary that balances sightseeing, adventure, and local food experiences.”
Follow-up prompt: “Can you recommend some local food spots or traditional dishes to try in Hunza?” - Education & Revision: “My child is in grade 9 and struggles with math. Can you suggest free online resources in Pakistan to help with algebra and geometry?”
Follow-up prompt: “Can you recommend interactive apps or YouTube channels for grade 9 math practice?”
Multimodal Search: Beyond Text
One of the standout features of AI Mode is its multimodal capability, allowing users to search not just through text but also voice and images. Powered by Google Lens, users can take photos and instantly get AI-driven answers.
For instance, a shopper in Karachi can snap a picture of unfamiliar spices at a market and ask: “What are these spices and how can I use them in Pakistani cooking?” The system also supports conversational follow-ups, creating a smooth, interactive browsing experience.
Built Into Google Search
AI Mode combines advanced AI capabilities with Google’s information systems, including the Knowledge Graph and real-time shopping data for billions of products. While the system aims to provide direct AI-powered responses, it defaults to traditional web results in cases where confidence is low, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Google acknowledges that AI Mode is still an early-stage product and may not always be perfect, but stresses its commitment to continuous improvement.
Availability in Pakistan
AI Mode is now live in Pakistan in English and can be accessed through the Google App (Android and iOS) as well as on both mobile and desktop web browsers.
With this launch, Pakistan joins the growing list of countries gaining access to Google’s most cutting-edge AI search technology, opening up new possibilities for learning, exploration, and everyday problem-solving.
